Each year in Philadelphia, hundreds of thousands of students head off to college, pursuing a dream for their future. Philadelphia is one of the country's largest college towns and produces a large portion of a stable future workforce.
Yet, almost as soon as these students hit campus, a stark reality will hit many of them: they cannot afford to pay for college and the necessities of life at the same time. As a result, nearly one in four college students will struggle with food insecurity during their time in college.
Gather is working to address that need. We believe that meeting basic needs with dignity is essential to student success in college, and we do so via an innovative approach to providing simple, stigma-free meals via our nonprofit partner, Believe in Students.
More than just feeding students, Gather is working to shine a light on this hidden issue - and you can help. With your help, we can bring increased understanding to this issue, allowing more systemic solutions to be accepted and implemented.
One in four college students can't access the food they need to be healthy and focus on school.
We're working to change that.
Believe in Students is the nation's only non-profit focused exclusively on supporting college students' living expenses. The organization develops and supports innovative, sustainable and effective solutions that can scale to meet widespread demand.
